Community Quest, Inc. proudly assists our neighbors live and work in the community. We are driven by excellence in each of the programs we run.
Individuals with a wide variety of disabilities live together in our group homes. They are assisted with everyday things like meal preparation and getting ready for the day by caring people who have chosen to dedicate their career to helping others. Each of our group homes is reflective of the “family” that resides there. Each program promotes a teaching environment to help individuals reach their potential and enjoy an excellent quality of life.
Our Supervised Apartment Program gives individuals with mild disabilities the opportunity to live “on their own.” Two people share an apartment and are comforted to know that staff are within a short walk or phone call away in a neighboring apartment. Each person is able to take care of their apartment, to cook and do their own laundry, but need some help getting around town to the doctors, buy groceries or attend social events. They keep very active supporting nearby Holy Spirit High School in its sporting events, going out to dinner with friends or whatever fun activities they can arrange.
The Supportive Living Program offers independent living with a little bit of help. The men and women in this program live on their own, in their own apartment in the community of their choice. Many of them are employed in neighborhood businesses. All of them are very proud of living on their own and fiercely protect their independence. That’s where we come in. We help them with whatever they need. It may be with organizing their finances, accessing transportation or arranging and getting to medical appointments. Over the years this group of friends has formed a strong bond with each other and with the individuals living in our Supervised Apartment program. They are the life of the party when they get together to go bowling or out to dinner. They are livin’ the life and lovin’ it!
The serene Cape May County community of Woodbine houses our show case, a beautiful apartment building customized for people with disabilities. When you enter the building the warm tones and serenity of the environment inside bring you to a calm, tranquil place. The building has extra wide hallways, roll in showers and lower countertops so a person using a wheelchair for mobility can get around freely. There’s also a community kitchen and a warm and cozy living room where the tenants can get together and watch a movie or just enjoy each other’s company. The tenants enjoy the best of both worlds…the privacy of their own apartment and the opportunity to socialize with others when they want. Who could ask for anything more?
Career Quest, Community Quest’s employment division has assisted many people on their path to self sufficiency by helping them find, learn and keep a job. About twenty years ago this division began helping people with a wide range of disabilities through our Supported Employment Program. This program has helped reveal the potential in many people…most of whom have never worked before. The pride felt by each person when they get their first paycheck cannot be easily described. Our job coaches are sustained by the pure joy and feeling of accomplishment each newly employed person feels when they learn their job and can work independently. It‘s truly a beautiful thing!
Since 1998 Community Quest has been changing the lives of individuals and families progressing from welfare to work through our Work Quest program. We developed a customized program which includes a variety of trainings to assist many people who have become disconnected from the labor market. Each person is assisted in the development of a specific plan to overcome the barriers that have kept them from long term employment. The ripple effect that occurs when a person begins to break the cycle of poverty is difficult to measure. We are proud to know that we have positively impacted the person directly as well as their family and their neighbors. There’s nothing more satisfying than when one of the people we have assisted comes full circle and works for us in this same program to help others rise above their circumstances and become self sufficient. It’s a story that writes itself.
Community Quest utilized its experience and success when entering into a contract with Harrah’s Entertainment to provide employment services. We have tapped into the local workforce that historically has had difficulty finding and maintaining employment. It’s a win, win, win situation. Harrah’s is very happy that we have helped alleviate the high cost of staff turnover, Community Quest has expanded our employment services business and most importantly we have assisted local individuals to get and keep a good job that will help them break the cycle of poverty.
Community Quest has developed a strategy to assist Latino individuals with disabilities enter the workforce. This three year program is taking a unique approach by engaging the Latino business community and the school system along with families and the individual with the disability. Each individual will be equipped with a customized plan for employment as well as a Spanish speaking job coach that will pave the way for the individual. The Cumberland County Latino community has embraced this program to help their “family” get on their path to independence.
